What Is An Oceanographic Winch?

  An Oceanographic Winch is used to pull equipment and people from the seabed. It is commonly used by scuba divers, underwater archaeologists, and marine biologists to access areas that are inaccessible by other means. An  Oceanographic Winch  is a winch with a cable or rope that can pull the diver or other personnel down to the bottom of the ocean. These devices are mostly found in diving operations and archaeological exploration in the deep sea. A winch consists of an armature which rotates around an axis, is loaded with weights to provide traction for the cable and is fitted at one end with a drum or drum-shaped spool on which the rope can be wound up from below when it reaches its maximum length.
